Create A Girl Princess Costume On Your Own

By Christine Carroll

Most little girls dream of being a princess and a girl princess costume is the perfect way to become one. Enjoy creating the perfect costume with your child by hunting for the items you need in your own home. There are plenty of chances to use these dresses and crowns!

It all starts with the dress. This should be very elegant. It can be purchased from a costume place where they sell "real" princess dresses, or you can pick a pretty party dress and use that. Princesses should have plenty of sparkle, so buy some fancy rhinestones and adorn the dress, particularly on the skirt and around the cuffs. The neckline can also be decorated.

Ribbons and bows can also be added to dresses for a more elegant look. Keep some different ribbons on hand, satin and velvet are the most beautiful. These can be turned into bows, or you can buy your own ready made ones and attach each one to the dress. Ribbon is also handy as a hair tie or even for a sash. Having several types on hand will give your princess a nice selection to choose from.

Shoes are next on the list. While glass slippers are the usual for princesses, you can make do with satin ballet slippers. These can be stepped up a notch with rhinestones and ribbons, too, if need be. Or, for a faster solution, look at plastic shoes available in shops. They look like crystal and are ideal for a princess.

For a crown, you can make your base from cardboard or craft foam and then add some rhinestones, glitter and anything else that seems royal. Another way to do this is with sparkle pipe cleaners twisted together. There are also store bought options, tin or plastic, which work very well for anyone looking to become royal for a day.

The finishing touch is a wand, in case your fairy godmother forgets to show up. This can be done with a stick, glitter glue and some finer ribbons tacked to the end.

Little girls love to dress up and with all the movies out there about royalty, it's no surprise they like to dress like their favorite princesses. While you can really make a princess out of anything you have in the house, if she wants to look like Belle or Cinderella, she'll need specific colors and costumes. These are usually available online or in costume stores. Look for deals just after Halloween, but realize that a girl princess costume is great any time of year!
