Searching Through Halloween Costumes Online

By Adriana Noton

It's that time of the year again when Halloween is just right around the corner and you have to buy Halloween costumes for your kids to go trick or treating or you may be going to that one costume party you're invited to every year.

Now that you have kids you get to create new memories. You may not be able to go to that costume party you were invited to and waited all year round to be able to go to it. Since you have kids, you have responsibilities like you and your husband taking them out trick or treating. Plus it's a great way to spend quality family time.

Some people may decide to buy costumes that match who you are and what your personality is screaming out to be. Honestly Halloween is the time where you can go out whether it's trick or treating or to a costume party and wear something that no one could picture you wearing. Halloween is just about the only time of the year where you can go out dressing as someone else.

Your child may sit in front of the television all the time and all the time watching their favorite cartoon show because it comes on all the time so it has to be popular. You may decide you want to try searching through any stores you can think of online and find the cartoon character you're child is the most amused by. Plus you'll want to make sure they look good. You're going to be taking pictures before hitting the streets going trick or treating and sending them to family members.

The only bad thing about going shopping online is that you won't be able to try on any costumes. You may not even be able to send it back if it's being sent to your address. Most people, women especially, have to try on clothes because some stores they wear one size and other stores they wear another size. If this is the case for you, then going shopping in actual stores would be more right for you.

When shopping online, you have to look carefully and be more aware because some costumes you can only purchase online while other costumes are only sold in a particular store. If you decide to shop online for the costume you want, then you would have to order your costume a few weeks before your costume party just to make sure it gets to your house on time.

You also want to have back up plans when shopping online because you may not be looking as closely as you thought you were and choose your costume but when you get to the store you find out that the costume you wanted was only available online. You would want to have a few extra of your favorite costumes picked out so that way before you even go to the store to search for any of them starting with your most favorite to favorite, you'll have more than one costume written down and their will be a good chance you could still find one you absolutely love.

Halloween is the time of the year for Costumes parties so you would have to buy that one perfect Halloween costume to wear and you should make sure that it's completely different from your every day personality. It would get boring if you were the same person for Halloween. You need to expand and try other options to see what's out there.

Halloween Superstitions: True or False

By Brandon Rowley

There are many myths, superstitions, and folklore surrounding the Halloween holiday. Apart from making interesting trivia, these myths can provide lots of ideas for Halloween costumes, Halloween parties, and Halloween party games. Here are just a few examples.

Bobbing for Apples Most people consider bobbing for apples to be a Halloween party game. Centuries ago, however, it was a superstitious form of fortune-telling. It was believed that the first person to successfully bite an apple and pull it from the water would be the next one to get married. This detail might be more fun to tell your guests after the game is over and the winner selected.

Black Cats Are Unlucky Black cats have been considered unlucky for centuries, mainly because of their association with witchcraft and evil. In the US and Canada today, if a black cat crosses your path, it is considered an omen of imminent bad luck. This superstition is clearly false. For example, in Britain and Ireland, it's unlucky for a white cat to cross your path. It's actually considered lucky if a black cat crossed your path instead. Obviously, both superstitions can't be true. They can, however, be a lot of fun.

Cat Halloween costumes have been popular for decades, particularly with women. This is partly because black cat Halloween costumes can provide cheap fancy dress if you already have a black outfit. If so, only a set of ears and a tail need to be purchased. You can then run in circles around your friends at Halloween parties in black cat Halloween costumes, telling them you're cursing them for years. Friends wearing a pair of cat Halloween costumes, one white and one black, can compete over who can curse or uncurse the most party guests.

Salt Wakes a Zombie This superstition is partly true. As monsters, zombies originated among the Voodoo practices of Haiti. A Haitian black sorcerer can curse someone to die and rise again as a mindless in a constant trance-like state, to serve as the sorcerer's slave. If the zombie ever tastes salt, however, it awakens and attacks the sorcerer. Scientific studies of Voodoo and zombies have discovered that a sorcerer's zombie powder contains a neurotoxin called tetrodotoxin obtained from the Puffer Fish. This toxin can blocks the sodium channels in nerve and muscle cells, causing to victim to become paralyzed but stay conscious. Their families confuse the paralysis for death and bury the victim, who is dug up later by the sorcerer. Although paralyzed, the victim is aware of all of this, and believes he had been killed and raised from the dead. Interestingly, salt contains sodium. Eating enough salt could restore the use of the victims muscles and nerves, essentially counteracting the neurotoxin and waking the zombie. Once awake, the victim will be understandably angry with the sorcerer, and might even attack him! The salt myth has great potential for a zombies vs. zombie hunters; Halloween party game. Everyone knows that if a zombie bites a zombie hunter, the hunter turns into a zombie, too. But to balance things out, zombie hunters could use salt to wake up a zombie, turning it into another hunter for their side.

Zombie-themed Halloween parties are fun, partly because zombie Halloween costumes are also cheap fancy dress options. All your guests really need are some old clothes they can rip up, and some fake blood from a costume shop.

Haunted Houses around the UK

By Edward Watts

With Halloween just passed, halloween costumes and other types of customs may still be in your mind. If you want a bit of Halloween atmosphere with or without Halloween costumes, though, consider visiting one of the many haunted houses around the UK for a bit of good and spooky fun. Let's take a look at some of the top locations.

Jamaica Inn, Bodmin Moor, Cornwall Daphne du Maurier's famous Jamaica Inn is indeed real and still very much around in Cornwall. This 250-year-old tavern has lots of paraphernalia from its smuggling days, but there's a lot of other activity, too, from uninvited guests; of the past. Whether it's ghostly horses' hooves in the cobbled courtyard outside, or footsteps echoing down empty hallways, a visit to Jamaica Inn is sure to satisfy the most ardent of ghost chasers. You may see apparitions of people from the past, such as a man in a tricorn hat walking through walls, or a murder victim simply sitting around passing the time. Bedroom number four is a sure bet if you want some good old paranormal activity, and a sleepless night.

Chillingham Castle, Alnwick, Northumberland, England This castle hosts the famous whimpering, moaning Blue Boy. Some scraps of blue clothing and his bones were discovered in the castle, behind a wall; his cries are still heard to this day, apparently as he was imprisoned there. Lady Mary Berkley, another ghost, goes up and down the turret stairs, her long dress (no costumes, here, but the real thing) rustling as she apparently searches for her husband, who took off on an affair with her sister. There's a lot of other of ghost activity here, too; come and take a look around for visitors.

Talbot Hotel, Oundle, Northamptonshire, England Talbot Hotel apparently has a very famous ghostly guest, Mary Queen of Scots. That's because the unfortunate Queen trod down its famous staircase when it used to be part of Fotheringhay Castle; she, most unfortunately, was on her way to her final destination at the time, the executioner's block. With Talbot Hotel's open fires, transom windows, and open oak beams, you can certainly envision the Queen of Scots on the way to her doom -- and you may even see her in passing.

Elvey Farm, Pluckley, Kent, England Pluckley, Kent, is said to be England's most haunted village; at least, that's according to the Guinness Book of Records. Elvey Farm, dating back to mediaeval times, retains the rustic beauty of that time -- and its own weeping wanderer. There's also a highwayman, a miller, a soldier, a man who simply... screams, and Red Lady Derring, among other ghosts (all of whom are decidedly unhappy, by all accounts), so make sure you pluck up plenty of courage before you go.

Ruthin Castle, Ruthin, Denbighshire, Wales Ruthin Castle is probably really just asking to be haunted, with a whipping pit, a drowning pit, and plenty of dungeons on its promises. In addition, apparently, a jealous wife known as the Grey Lady murdered the lover of her husband with an axe -- which means you'll likely get some ghostly activity if you pay a visit. You may see the Grey Lady roaming the chapel or battlements, or you may just hear a lot of footsteps, noises that can't be explained, and fluctuations in temperature that seem to come from nowhere.

In addition, you may also see the spectre of a soldier that simply appears out of nowhere. You don't need Halloween costumes to go visit these delightfully dreadful places -- but you may just want to, to help put yourself in the mood. Be careful, though, because you don't want costumes to confuse any of your ghostly friends so that they take you as one of them!

The Biggest Great American Holidays

By Edward Watts

From Halloween costumes to pretty dresses adorned in flowers, there are many traditions and dress codes that tend to go along with many celebrated American holidays throughout the year. In fact you can find something to celebrate during every season, no matter what part of the country you happen to be living in or visiting. Halloween costumes represent just one of the many American Holidays; it's important to keep in mind that there are numerous other occasions to celebrate too.

Christmas Christmas is a hugely popular holiday with both children and adults alike. The time is special for most families because it means being able to spend time together without the stress and commotion of everyday life. Children get to take part in the magic of Santa, while parents take joy in being able to provide their children with special gifts. This time of year is a popular time for family reunions and Christmas fancy dress parties.

Thanksgiving This is another time of year when families love to get together and share time with one another. Loved ones who live far and wide tend to gather together for this day of feasting. A huge turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and desserts are the centerpiece of this holiday, as is football. Most people even get the day after Thanksgiving off of work and school, and they spend it recovering from eating too much!

Easter This is a fun holiday for children because finding hidden Easter eggs after they have been decorated is part of the holiday's traditional activities. Beautiful spring dresses are worn by women and girls, while men and boys tend to dress up in suits and ties. Most people attend some sort of church function on Easter, as this is a religious holiday as well. However, even those who do not attend church like to participate in the fun and games of this holiday.

Halloween Briefly mentioned, Halloween is a popular American holiday because people love to dress up in Halloween costumes. Some dress up as famous movie stars or singers, while other choose their favorite characters from books and movies. And in fact even others choose a different route and become their favorite items, like computers, dice or even shoes. A lot of creativity is present on this occasion, which tends to make it one of the most popular occasions for people of all ages.

Ghosts and ghouls can be found at haunted houses, and houses around the country are home waiting for kids to coming knocking on their doors for a treat. This time of year, children tend to stay up too late with stomach aches due to eating too much candy, or scared from the stories they have been told by their friends or family earlier in the evening.
